Union Bank of Nigeria Plc is one of the oldest banks of Nigeria tracing its history back to 1917 as a colonial bank. It was a subject of an equity injection of USD 500 million by a Union Global Partners Limited in December 2011 following the financial crisis. Union bank returned to profitability in 2012. Currently, the Bank is primarily owned by UGPL (65%) and AMCON (20%) and a diverse group of shareholders that account for the balance (15%). Union Global Partners Limited comprises African Capital Alliance, ADC African Development Corporation, Corsair Capital, Netherlands development finance company and The Chandler Corporation.
