SLS arrives in Lagos

March 14 (Lagos) - Ex-Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria who fixed the financial system after the 2009 collapse arrived in Lagos after getting removed of his sultanate in Kano.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi became the Emir of Kano after leaving the CBN in 2014. While he was CBN he spoke against the on-going corruption in the country and predicted the slide that the economy witnessed in later years.

His return to Lagos could open the possibility of him joining politics and contesting the next elections in the country. He is no longer Emir so he could be eligible to contest in elections. Nigerians will welcome a known economic leader and someone who wanted to check corruption in the country even while he is an Emir.

This is a bullish sign for economy. Someone like SLS can drag Nigeria out of the economic quagmire. During this tenure at CBN, the Naira was stable and retail petrol was cheaper while oil prices were higher. Nigeria was also an attractive investment destination in the world.

In 2009 he took sweeping measures to stabilize the banking sector, created AMCON and introduced the cash-less drive in the country. The economy needs someone like SLS to regain confidence.
