US-China tensions rise

Aug 3 (Lagos) - The tensions between two biggest economies in the world rose after US senator Nancy Pelosi made a visit to Taiwan against China's wishes. China considers Taiwan as its province and has ordered navy and air force drills around the island later this week.

US has played down the visit and said they they expect the status quo to be maintained by both sides. China had warned the US for consequences if the senator visited the island nation of Taiwan.

This geo-political tension could not have come at a worse time when Europe is already battling to come to terms with what could be a very cold winter as a result of the conflict in Ukraine and its effect on gas supply to their homes which comes directly from Russia.
