Wema bank to increase their capital ratio to 15% end of 2018   

20 July 2018 ( Lagos ) : Wema Bank Plc plans to raise N20 billion through bond offering in August to boost its capital adequacy. They ought to enhance their funding, and they are presently in the process of raising Tier II . The debt raise is the second portion of a N50 billion bond programme. The bank is determined to increase its capital ratio to 15 % by year end. 


The regulatory minimum capital ratio for Wema Bank and its peers is 10 percent. Assuming the government bond yields drop below 18% with falling inflation, the bank could issue debt. They also believe that they could raise their equity in 2018 to bolster their capital ratio and cut their operating costs as their new digital strategy gains traction.
